(December 5, 2014) Former Accountant-General of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Mr. Ambode has emerged the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state. He polled the highest votes at the party's gubernatorial primaries that lasted till the early hours of Friday (05-12-2014) at Onikan stadium, Lagos Island.
Announcing the results, the Electoral Officer, Dr. Peter Obada said Mr. Ambode scored 3,735 votes out of the total 5735 votes cast.
Dr. Obada commended the aspirants and their supporters for demonstrating high level maturity throughout the exercise encouraging any aggrieved one to make recourse to the appeal committee.
In his acceptance speech Mr. Ambode solicited the cooperation of other aspirants and their supporters to enable him to win the 2015 gubernatorial polls.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr Kadiri Hamzat came second with 1,201 votes while Senator Ganiyu Solomon clinched the third position with 270 votes.
Speaker of Lagos state Assembly, Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji scored 182 votes to occupy the fourth position, former Attorney-General of the state, Mr Supo Shashore came 5th scoring 121 while former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Leke Pitan occupied 6th position having scored 112 votes.
Over five thousand delegates took part in the primaries which had thirteen aspirants.
It is the firsts time the APC which metamorphosed from Alliance for Democracy would organize a ballot primaries as it had hitherto been a matter of consensus primaries.
